I have met three incredible women this month. Each one of them is inspired to bring to life a dream that is locked deep inside her heart, seemingly impossible, yet waiting to be given life, to grow wings and fly.
It’s been a long road for each of them to this point, here and now.
They are not incredible because they have reached their goals. But they will. What makes them incredible in my mind is their capacity to ask good quality questions…
They’ve suffered at the mercy of fear fuelled procrastination with self talk like,
“Oh, it’s not important” (their heart centre contracts),
“I just need to let it go” (the head loses its connection with the body)
“I’m just no good at that and I could never be successful” (the mind contracts)
“Other people will think I’m crazy. They wont respect me, so I couldn’t possibly…”(the solar plexus contract).
What makes them incredible is that they’ve been listening to that self talk for a long time, but now…
they want to know how to stop believing it?
One of them felt a calling… it been nagging away at her heart for 3 years.
One doesn’t want her life to continue as it is because she’s been people-pleasing for too long.
One has been in denial of an auto-immune disease, which is compromising the quality of her life by self-sabotage through her diet and lifestyle…
These women are incredible because, whilst the unique and eclectic blend of their life time experiences – the family they were born into, their environment, their school life, their DNA, their persona, the career they chose or didn’t choose, the partner they have or had – has shaped the story of the journey that brought them here to this moment, they have recognised that something, somehow, somewhere inside of themselves is perpetuating that story on a pathway to more of the same. A story that will end up in regret, disappointment and a place far, far away from the dream that lights them up with joy.
Change can be scary for most people.
These women feel scared.
But they are willing to be courageous…
Its natural to get comfortable with what we know and what is familiar.
Our mind attempts to “lock down” the facts of how things are in the world for us. We can become imprisoned by the confines of our practiced, familiar beliefs, especially when they perpetuate thoughts like
“you will never…”
“you should just keep doing…” and
And all the while, the controlling mind, scared and cautious, creates contraction and rigidity, reducing flexibility and the ability to be present to the heart and what is possible and the natural flow of life, that is beyond the words… Beyond the logical grasping of the anxious fight or flight brain.
So what makes these women incredible?
Each one of them heard the limitations of their thinking, saw the patterns of their behaviour and observed the evidence of self-sabotage and each one said “Enough!”
These women are incredible because they asked a very powerful question that will change everything for them…
How do I do this differently?
With all their intellect and discipline and diligent efforts, they couldn’t see how to do it another way because they have never done it a different way before. But rather than giving up, feeling ashamed or embarrassed or making up excuses,
they are facing it,
they are owning it,
they are stepping into responsibility for it
and asking another question…
Can you help me?
And that’s where our coaching journey started.
